Monthly Cleaning Tasks: January Cleaning Checklist

I’ve decided to share my January cleaning checklist with you. But first, let me ask you a question: How do you keep track of all the cleaning tasks that need to be done? Some tasks need doing daily or weekly, and those are easier for me to remember. Others need doing only once every few months, or even once a year. How do you remember to do those? The best way for me is with a monthly cleaning checklist.

Cleaning can actually be fun because it's easy to create monthly checklists. Each month you can check off certain items after they have been cleaned. That is always a feel good moment. Here are a few things to clean in the month of January. #monthlcleaningchecklist #montlycleaningideas #thingstocleaninjanuary

January Cleaning Checklist

1. The first thing that I do once January hits {if not a few days before} is to take down all the Christmas decorations. Tree, lights, all of it. This includes organizing and tidying up all the decorations as I put them back into storage until next holiday season.

2. January is also the perfect time to get rid of the old to make room for all the new! So go through your closets and declutter them. Donate the clothes that you haven’t worn all year, and make room for the stuff you got for Christmas.

3. Gather up all your pillows and quilts, and take them to your local cleaners. If there are some you can wash at home, that’s okay too. Here’s how to remove stains from yellowed pillows right at home.

4. January, the coldest and darkest time of the year, is also the best time to dust the leaves of all your houseplants. Why? Because dust build-up on your plants decreases the amount of light and air they’re able to use, and January is already lacking in both. Do your plants a favor and dust them with a soft microfiber cloth. They’ll thank you!

5. Time for another one of those tasks that everyone forgets about. You may clean out your pantry every so often, but do you remember to clean up your spices? All it takes is a quick sniff to know if your spices are not as spicy as they once were. Replace the old ones with fresh spices. Your cooking will definitely thank you!

6. Finally, avoid January colds and flu by taking the time to sanitize those hard surfaces you may not think of every day: the remotes, door handles and computer keyboards.

Congratulations, your January cleaning checklist is complete!
