You might think you know all about that roll of aluminum foil in your kitchen. But do you know about all the aluminum foil tricks that can literally save you time and money? Aluminum foil is good for much more than just lining your baking pan. Here are the tricks you need to know.
Aluminum Foil Tricks To Save You Time & Money
One of the best aluminum foil tricks is to crumple it up. Here’s what you can do with a crumpled ball of aluminum foil:
- If you run out of your regular fabric softener sheets for the dryer, toss in a couple of crumpled balls of foil. They’ll keep static out of your clothes.
- Before you fire up your grill, rub the grate down with a ball of foil. The crumpled foil is amazing at cleaning the gunk off the grates!
- When you paint a project and want an interesting finish or texture, apply the paint with a crumpled ball of foil. Try it!
If you think you don’t like fish {or the smell from cooking it on your stove}, you just need this aluminum foil trick to convince you otherwise. Make foil packets for your fish. Grease a sheet of foil, add the fish with some fresh herbs and sliced lemon, and then wrap it up tight. Toss those packets on your grill over low heat, turning every 5 minutes. After 15-20 minutes you’ve got some deliciously tender, flaky fish ready to eat. And no smell!
Wrap your stove’s drip pans in foil to protect them from drips and spills. When they get dirty, just replace them. No scrubbing!
Use a sheet of foil to protect the bottom of your oven when you bake a fruit pie or other potentially messy treat. After the pie bakes, remove the foil and toss it in the trash.
A piece of foil is a great way to cook vegetables on the grill without them falling through the grates. And it’s a cheap alternative to a more expensive grill mat. Just spray the foil with cooking spray, lay it on the grill, and add sliced squash, onions, etc. Use hot pads to remove the foil when the vegetables finish cooking.
My favorite aluminum foil trick is for a cut onion. When you cut part of an onion and need to store the rest, wrap it in foil and then stick it in a plastic baggie. You’ll have no onion smell permeate your fridge!
