Establish a family routine, and stick to it.

Organization Tips For Kids

Let your kids know what the morning and evening schedule is. Inform them of set times such as when it’s time to get up, when it’s time to play, and when it’s time to go to sleep. A colorful checklist of items to be done each day {brush your teeth, make your bed, do your homework} is extremely helpful to keep kids on track. Some kids enjoy just checking off the items on their list each day. Additional positive reinforcement, such as earning stickers or an allowance, is a great way to encourage them to keep it up.

Teach your child to donate unneeded toys.

You can easily keep ahead of toy clutter by establishing a simple rule. Every time your child receives a new toy, an old toy must be donated to a child in need.  Not only does this teach an important life organization skill, it also teaches your child to care about others.

Teach your child how to use a list.

List-keeping is an important part of organization. Teach kids that lists are useful for many different things. It’s really easy to do! Let your child help track your grocery list while shopping. Help the kids make their own packing list for your next vacation. As you cross items off a list, you teach your child to organize their thoughts, and that’s a useful skill to have for life!
