Every now and then, your home can get a little cluttered and need a deep cleaning. Here are a few suggestions to help get a clean house and a fresh start so that, no matter how crazy your life is, you can come home and feel relaxed.

How to Get a Clean House and a Fresh Start

Calendar

First things first, take a deep breath, sit down, and map out a calendar that you can stick with to keep your house clean. You know your schedule, so make the cleaning light on days you’re busy and heavier on days you have more time.

Donate

If you go through your things and don’t wear/use them anymore but don’t want to just throw them away, then consider donating. Don’t keep unused items around if you don’t like them, but donate them so another person or family can enjoy them!

Clean Fridge

A high traffic area of the house is the kitchen and especially the fridge. Not only that, but it can also get stinky fast if you don’t keep it clean! Do a deep clean of your fridge by throwing out any old or expired food, wiping down the whole inside, and (if you want) putting a fridge deodorizer like baking soda inside. Then, just stay on top of the cleaning every week and your kitchen will always be fresh!

clean3

Organize Clothes

An organized home is a clean home, and an organized closet is a clean closet. Don’t just throw your clothes on the ground or your bed; take a few seconds at the end of every night and place them in the right spot, whether that be the dirty clothes or back in the closet. This will prevent piles of clothes from building up and keep all your rooms at least a little bit cleaner!

clean4

Place for Papers

For some reason, papers seem to be the biggest culprit in making a home seem dirty and disorganized. Designate a specific spot for papers; either in the desk, in a drawer, or somewhere else entirely. Then, whenever you or your family members bring papers home, make sure you all get in the habit of putting the papers in their right spot. This will keep your table and countertops clean from any paper clutter!

Clean Spills Right Away

Don’t let any spills or messes sit for long. I repeat: do not let spills have time to harden and get crusty! If an accident happens, wipe it up right away. If you get into this habit, then you won’t have to worry about hiring a specialist to get the week old Popsicle stain out of your carpet because it won’t have had time to set in. This saves you time and money in the long run.

clean6

Entryway

If you have the space, consider reworking your entryway to catch all the culprits that make your home dirty. Attach hooks to the walls to store backpacks, bags, and coats that often just get thrown onto the ground. Add a rug for storing shoes so that they can’t drag dirt and mud through the house. A few updates can really make your home a whole lot cleaner without much work on your side!

clean7

Store Away Dishes

Whenever the dishwasher finishes running, store the dishes away as soon as possible. You especially want to get them out of the dishwasher and into the cupboards before any meal. That way, dishes won’t pile up in the sink but can go straight into the dishwasher!

clean8

Potpourri

Lastly, when your whole house is clean and organized, make some delicious smelling potpourri to fill your home with awesome scents! There are tons of stovetop potpourri recipes, so choose one that you love and cook it up!
