Here are just some of the reasons why you should use family chore charts:

  1. A family chore chart gives everyone the flexibility to complete their chores when they choose. All you have to do is set up the chart on a weekly rotation. Decide on the day that chores are due to be completed. As long as everyone completes their chores before that day, they’re living up to their end of the deal. If there are certain chores that need to be done on a certain day, be sure to specify that day on the chart.
  2. Family chore charts let every member of the family know what needs to be done. Expectations are in writing, so everyone knows what those expectations are. It’s much easier to tell the kids to check the chore chart. That way, you don’t have to tell them over and over again what chores they’re expected to complete. This alone makes your life so much easier!
  3. Since this is a family chore chart, the kids also see what chores mom and dad are expected to complete. This effectively puts an end to the age-old kid argument that “I do everything around here!” It’s a good way to show the kids that everyone helps out around the house.
  4. A family chore chart effectively motivates everyone to get things done. If the kids want to go to a movie on Saturday, just refer to the chore chart to decide who is eligible to go. Set a time limit on the chores that still need to be done. For example, you can say “Okay, everyone who has their chores completed before lunch can go to a movie.” Then it’s up to each member of the family to check the chart and get their chores finished.
