There are a few, simple household gems that are good for a myriad of uses around the house. One of those gems is coffee filters. If you’re not much of a coffee drinker (at least at home), you might not buy them too often. But knowing how helpful coffee filters can be for other uses might make you want to run out and grab a pack!

1. Keep Dirt Where it Belongs

If you want to keep potting soil in its place, try putting a plain old coffee filter in the bottom of the pot before filling it with dirt. No more dirt falling on your carpet and furniture!

2. Hold ‘yer Dog

Having a backyard cookout with hot dogs? Hot dogs are the quintessential portable food. So why not make coffee filters available so everyone can carry theirs around without getting mustard all over their hands? A hot dog and clean hands — bonus!

3. Dust

For electronics and your car’s interior, coffee filters actually do a great job of dusting. Out of dust cloths? No problem! Best of all — there’s no lint left behind. This trick works for windows and mirrors, too! Just pair coffee filters with your favorite glass cleaner.

4. Potty Training Cleanup

Potty training? Before your toddler uses their training potty for #2, save yourself some cleanup and place a coffee filter in the potty. No scrubbing required!

5. Microwave Saver

When cooking food in the microwave, cover anything that splatters (which is almost everything) with a damp coffee filter. (The dampness gives it extra weight to keep it in place.) Keep that microwave clean! Genius.
