Ever feel like your brain isn’t firing on all cylinders? Welcome to the club! Seriously, some days I feel like I have to de-junk my mind before I can get anything done. If you feel like your brain function could use a boost (and whose couldn’t?), here are 6 ways to get it back in gear.

1. Shake it

No really! Dancing is a brain-boosting move that can help your brain function better by challenging your coordination, and may even help you avoid cognitive decline as you age. So go out there and cut a rug!

2. Break Up Your Routine

Aside from shaking your booty, shaking up your daily routine can help you boost your brain power. Think about it — doesn’t a change in your routine keep you on your toes? It does the same thing for your brain. Something as simple as using your non-dominant hand or having lunch earlier or later can help challenge your mind.

3. Declutter and Organize

Did you know the sight of clutter can actually hamper your mental ability to get things done? Clear your counters, your desk, whatever you’re looking at for much of the day.

4. Doodle

Yep, you have an excuse to draw in your notebook. Research actually shows that doodling during cognitive tasks can improve your memory by stimulating the brain.

5. Get Your Omega-3’s

Omega 3 fatty acids, like DHA, are essential for brain and retina function. About 60% of your brain is comprised of fats, and 25% of that is DHA. Take fish oil, eat fish, and find other sources of these essential brain-fueling nutrients.

6. Get Enough D

Vitamin D receptors can encourage nerve growth in the brain. There are even metabolic pathways for vitamin D in the areas of your brain where planning, forming memories, and processing information happens.
