Yum. Don’t you ever just feel like cracking open a brand new bottle of Mr. Clean and chugging it down? No? Well, if drinking a nice, cold glass of Pine Sol doesn’t do it for you either, then you might be interested to know that there’s a terrific cleaning agent that you CAN — and perhaps DO drink on a regular basis. Coke! And if you’re more of a Pepsi person or even a Dr. Pepper fan, you can use those too. Here are some common household things you can actually clean with a can or bottle of cola.
1. Sticky Stuff
Whether it’s sap or gum, cola is great for cleaning up all kinds of sticky residues. Just let the area soak for 5-10 minutes while the phosphoric acid goes to town. After that, use your regular soap on it.
2. Oil & Grease
Got unsightly oil spots on your brand new driveway? Spill a little motor oil on the garage floor? It’s not a problem for your favorite (or favorite cheap) cola. Pour some onto the stain (be generous) and let it stand for at least a few hours. Then grab your garden hose and spray it down with the highest pressure you’ve got. It’s the sodium bicarbonate that does the dissolving.
If your favorite pan has a pesky burned-on mess left after dinner, a can of cola can come to your rescue. It’ll help dissolve the crusty stuff. Just pour it in to cover the bottom of the pan and let it sit overnight. In the morning, washing that pan should be a whole lot easier. So embrace your inner chef…you can clean up the mishaps later!
4. Your Toilet
Toilet need cleaning and out of your regular cleaner? Try cola! You might even find that it works just as well or better. Just measure out 1-2 cups and pour it into your toilet. The acids will help dissolve stains. You can even try club soda or any other carbonated beverage. As you pour, let it flow over the ring around that bowl Let it sit undisturbed for about an hour, if you can. Then scrub those stains away (if needed — you might not even need to scrub) and flush.
