Winter windshield washer fluid is a must anytime of year, but especially during the winter. However, if you live in a frigid winter climate, you may have experienced a frozen windshield washer fluid line–even if you use windshield washer fluid rated for cold temps. Spike Your Winter Windshield Washer Fluid

We aren’t talking about partying here, but you may feel like partying when your windshield washer fluid doesn’t freeze during the next winter storm. Vodka also helps when you are able to use your windshield fluid while driving down the freeway on a freezing cold day without it turning your windshield into a sheet of ice!

If you’re familiar with Vodka, you know that the alcohol content prevents it from freezing. By spiking your existing washer fluid with vodka, you’ll prevent it from freezing on those blustery cold days. The good news is, you can also make your own winter windshield washer fluid easily and cheaply with either vodka or good old rubbing alcohol.

Spike Your Windshield Washer Fluid

Make any windshield washer fluid freeze-resistant by adding about a cup of vodka or rubbing alcohol per gallon of fluid. If it freezes, add another 1/2 cup of vodka.

Make Your Own Winter Windshield Washer Fluid

To make an efficient cold weather washer fluid, you need the following ingredients:

• Distilled water
• White Vinegar
• Vodka or Rubbing Alcohol
• A gallon jug {like an empty milk jug, washed}

Fill the gallon jug with distilled water until it’s about 2/3 of the way to the top. Next, add 1 1/2 cups of vodka or acetyl {rubbing} alcohol. Fill the jug the rest of the way with white vinegar. Mix well. Leave the jug outside in freezing temps overnight to test it. If it freezes, add a little more alcohol or vodka.
