Shower Cleaning Hacks: Why You Should Wax Your Glass Shower

Glass showers are notoriously tricky to keep clean. They’re continually subject to water spots and mineral deposits that make them appear cloudy and dirty. It can seem like they aren’t worth cleaning sometimes, just to be dirtied with the very next shower.

This is precisely why your arsenal of shower cleaning hacks should include waxing your glass shower! A coat of wax, when applied to a clean glass shower door, keeps the glass sparkling clean for much longer than without the wax. This frees up a lot of time spent cleaning glass shower doors to do something else. Who doesn’t want that?

Before You Wax Your Glass Shower

Don’t apply wax to your glass shower until it’s clean and free from all hard water and mineral deposits, or the wax won’t work. The best way to get your glass shower prepped for wax is to clean it with a mixture of 4 parts white vinegar to 1 part water. Put this mixture in a spray bottle and liberally spray the glass shower. Use a microfiber cleaning cloth to clean the shower doors until they shine.

Once the shower doors are clean, they must be completely dry before you wax them. Use another clean microfiber cloth to remove all traces of water from the doors, or give them enough time to air dry before proceeding.

How To Wax Your Glass Shower

What type of wax should you use for your glass shower? Basically, any automotive wax will do. I recommend trying Fast Wax. It comes in a convenient spray can that is easy to use. Simply apply small amounts of the automotive wax to the glass shower doors, and rub it over the surface using circular motions. Make sure all of the glass is covered in a light layer of wax.

After the wax is applied, let it dry until it becomes crusty. Once the wax is dry, use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to buff it out–just like you do for your car’s exterior. Rub the wax in small, circular motions until the surface shines. The wax keeps your shower looking beautiful for longer!

Important: After you buff the wax on your glass shower, use a commercial cleaner to remove all traces of wax dust that have fallen onto the surface of the tub or shower floor and surrounding areas. If you don’t do this, the wax dust will leave them slippery.
