Springtime is right around the corner, and you know what that means: cleaning and organization. Hooray, right? Okay, even if that stuff doesn’t excite you, at least the results should. There’s nothing like a tidy and organized home to get you ready for warmer weather and a change of season. If you’re ready for a fresh start, here are 10 organization ideas for the home that are DIY and totally doable.
1. Cheap & Easy Storage Shelves
Head to your local dollar store or big-box retailer and find some inexpensive little plastic crates. Thee can actually be fastened together, turned sideways, and attached to the wall. Then you can fit all kinds of things inside and on top of them for a go-to tidying solution that’s easy for the kids to use. Cheap, easy, and fast…the best kind of organization craft.
2. Bath Toy Bag
Bath toys can become a huge, stinky, mildew-ridden mess when not allowed to dry properly. But of course, you need them put away. Why not make this fast and easy bath toy bag with mesh material that lets everything drain while keeping the mess contained. Perfect!
3. Plastic Bag Dispenser
Grab a #10 (coffee sized) can and cut an X in the lid. Paint and stencil it if you want, but use it to dispense plastic grocery bags or trash bags.
4. Toilet Paper Tube Desk Organizer
Pens, pencils, crayons, kid-sized scissors, paints; if you’ve got craft supplies, you might very well have an organization problem. This DIY organizer is made of a cardboard box and toilet paper tubes. Cute, cheap, and functional.
5. Cereal Box Paper Tray
If you have kids in school or a home office, you have paper — probably lots of it. A simple stack of practically free cereal boxes makes a fantastic paper tray. Glue them together and cover with decorative contact paper. Sweet!
6. Clothespin Clip Organizer
Glue some clothespins on to a cute board, and your imagination is about the only limit as to what you can do with it. Necklaces, scarves, belts, mail, keys, school papers, photos — you name it, you can clip it an keep it neat.
7. On a Roll
If your house is anything like mine, there’s just nowhere great to keep that big box of trash bags. We usually end up keeping it on top of the fridge, but since taking the garbage out is an ideal chore for kids, this spot can prove problematic. Instead, use a couple of hooks and a dowel inside a closet or cupboard and keep the trash bags “on a roll.” Just be sure the kids can reach them. 😉
8. Cute & Simple Chore Chart
An organized home demands everyone doing their part. To help keep everyone on top of their chores, make this cute chore chart out of a painted (if you want) clip board and clothespins. Write names and chores on them, and clip them in the appropriate places when things are checked off the list.
9. Create a Shelf — With Crates
Cheap wooden craft store crates can be painted or stained (or not!) and attached together in myriad ways to create a practical — and pretty — storage solution for bathrooms, living rooms, bedrooms, and pantry areas.
10. Cardboard Drawer Organizer
Small cardboard boxes can be covered in cute paper and tucked in any drawer to organize office supplies, socks, craft items, lingerie, whatever.
