Does your oven need some love? Does it smoke up your kitchen every time you use it, due to burnt-on rubbish in the bottom or on your once-shiny racks? Yuck. But cleaning it is a major pain that none of us wants to deal with — or is it?
We year ya — nobody wants to stick their head in a greasy oven to clean it, especially with all those harsh chemicals oven cleaners are made of. Good thing for all of us, we can get our ovens clean without all the strong stuff. Best of all, this little cleaning project won’t take you all day. Here’s how to do it.
1. Supplies
First of all, gather a scouring pad and plenty of Coke. Seriously! Now, it doesn’t necessarily have to be Coke brand, but heck…just buy some extra and drink the rest. You’ll deserve it after cleaning your oven. Am I right? A little bit later, you’ll need some baking soda and a sponge.
2. Remove Racks & Soak
Take your racks out and soak them in the cola. The acids will help remove stains, mineral buildup, and rust. Let them sit for 15 minutes, then use your scouring pad to scrub the gunk right off. Then, just rinse clean.
3. Inside the Oven
For the rest of your oven, mix baking soda and water into a paste, then use a good sponge to spread it all over the interior of your oven. For a really tough cleaning, you can add vinegar, too. Let this powerful mixture stay there for several hours, or preferably overnight. Then dampen your sponge and wipe away the paste, revealing a clean surface underneath.
For corners and crevices that are difficult to reach, use an old toothbrush.
