How to Deep Clean All the Blinds in Your House

Cleaning blinds is one of my least favorite chores. It’s so tedious and I always lose track of where I was cleaning, and it just never seems to end. However, there are a few things that can make deep cleaning blinds easier and more efficient. Here are some of them!

Vacuum

There are lots of different types of blinds, and so there are a few different ways to clean them. One of those ways that works for most blinds is a dusting attachment on the vacuum cleaner. Set it to low and then run the vacuum across both sides of the slats. This words best for faux wood and fabric blinds.

Vinegar

Another solution is to mix equal parts vinegar and warm water together. Then put a sock on your hand and dip it in the mixture. After that, you just need to take each slat between your fingers (so that you will be cleaning the bottom and top parts at the same time) and run the sock across them.

Furniture Polish

If you have actual wooden blinds, then try this idea! Since most wood blinds come with a protective coating to keep them safe, furniture polish is a great way to clean them. Simply rub the polish up and down each side of the slats and your blinds will look brand new!

Hair Dryer

This works best with fabric blinds, but you can also try it with vinyl and aluminum ones. Simply set the hair dryer to cool and then blow any dirt and dust out of the crevices of the blinds. After you’re done, just vacuum beneath the window and you’re good to go!

Warm, Soapy Water

However, if your fabric blinds are stained, the hair dryer won’t be much help. Instead, make a mixture of soap and warm water and then gently scrub the stains out of the fabric. Let the blinds dry completely before you open them back up, though.

Soak in Tub

For vinyl and aluminum blinds, this is a great and pretty simple way to clean them! Just take the blinds off the mount and then soak them in a tub full of warm water and Dawn soap. Take a brush or a sponge and wipe down all the slats. If you have a whirlpool tub, the tub soak setting will clean your blinds for you! Once you’ve done that, drain the tub and fill it with clean water to rinse the blinds. Take them out of the water, drip the excess water on a towel, and then hang them up to dry!

Lint Roller

For vertical blinds most of the previously mentioned methods will work, depending on their material. However, another simple solution is to run a lint roller down each of the slats. This should pick up most of the dirt and dust that’s settled on them.
