I’m a big believer in first decluttering in order to get a room or house clean. So, declutter your bedroom and donate or get rid of anything that you don’t use, wear, or want anymore.
Once you’ve figured out what you don’t want to keep, now decide what should be in your room and what should be somewhere else in the house. Do you need your toothbrush next to your bed, or should it be in the bathroom?
Make your bed every day. It may sound silly, but making your bed will help you keep the rest of your bedroom clean as well.
Never through dirty clothes onto the ground. Always put them in the hamper or laundry basket. Keep dirty clothes off the ground and you’ll be surprised at how clean your bedroom will stay.
Have clothing separators for your drawers. It helps you stay organized but also keeps any clothes from pushing their way out of the drawers.
Buy or make a jewelry organizer so you don’t have a massive clump of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings sitting on your nightstand.
Have some sort of catch all in your room for small items that are just kind of random. A wire basket is usually pretty good for this and can be kept on the back of your door.
Utilize all the storage space in your closet as best as possible. Don’t just hang clothes up on the rod and call it good. Use storage above and below to maximize the organization and cleanliness.
Always shut drawers when you’re done looking inside of them. You’d be surprised at how dirty open and messy drawers can make your room look.
Maximize the storage space under your bed. If possible, put wheeled storage under the bed so it’s easier to access and put away.
Increase and improve the lighting you have in your bedroom. This includes both natural light and artificial light. With more light, things will look cleaner and you’ll want to keep them cleaner, too.
Make a schedule for cleaning chores you’ll do in your bedroom. Have a specific day to do things like vacuum, dust, etc.
Don’t eat in your bedroom, especially your bed. It may be tempting, but it will make a mess. Wrappers, crumbs, and other food remnants will get all over your bedroom.
Add a candle or something to your bedroom to make it smell good. The better your bedroom smells, the more you’ll want to keep it clean since it smells clean.
I know it’s hard, but make sure you tackle the dreaded shoe pile in your room and closet. Get your shoes under control so the floor space isn’t covered.
Wash your sheets about once every week. Not only will it make them smell and look cleaner, but it will also reduce the amount of dust (from your skin flecks) that gets in the air.
Clean and deodorize your mattress with a mixture of baking soda and essential oils. Put them in a sifter, spread them on your mattress, let them sit for a few hours, and then vacuum it off.
I highly recommend having a garbage in your bedroom. It will prevent you from putting trash on the floor or furniture, which will definitely make things cleaner.
