Some things need to be cleaned more often than others. For example, you probably do dishes every day, but maybe you vacuum weekly. If you want to keep a clean house, here is a list of things to put on your weekly to-do’s. However, that doesn’t mean they all need to be done the same day of the week. Split it up, and you’ll have a clean house AND a free schedule. If you’re cleaning some of these things more than weekly, congrats! You might be able to cut back.

1. Laundry

Most of us have a “laundry day.” But is yours consistent, or when the pile starts to take over the whole bedroom? At my house, each kid has their own laundry day on a different day of the week. As for the rest of it, I plead the 5th. But I must say, the more consistent it gets done, the easier it is.

2. Rugs and Carpet

If you have pets, you might need to do this more often. However, even under those conditions weekly vacuuming should keep things looking relatively fresh. It’s especially important in areas that get a lot of foot traffic.

3. Bathroom Surfaces

Your bathroom counters, mirrors, etc will need a good cleaning about once a week. If you use a simple disinfecting wipes, the job will be easier. See how to make your own here. Did you know your toilet can spew germy water up to 6 feet? That’s covers almost the whole bathroom. EWWW!

4. Furniture

Dusty furniture is a bad look. And if it’s allowed to build up, it can be bad for your furniture, too. Get a good microfiber duster that actually picks up dust instead of just moving it around.

5. The Shower & Tub

Neglecting this one can result in mold and mildew build-up that’s pretty unpleasant. Invest in a good tub and tile cleaner and a long-handled squeegee.

6. Sheets

This is a hard one for me (see #1…still pleading the 5th). But dead skin, sweat, and other nasties can really build up on and in  your sheets. And who wants to sleep in that? It’s best to wash them weekly.

7. The Head

Yeah…you knew this was coming. You should really clean your toilet once a week; bowl, seat, and around the bottom too. Unless you have a house full of boys, in which case you might want to clean it hourly?

8. The Kitchen Floor

This is another tough one for me. But when I notice my kitchen floor is looking awful, I begrudgingly clean it. If you don’t want to be like me (which I would recommend), clean yours once a week.

9. Appliances

Kitchen appliances such as stoves, fridges, and microwaves are pretty well used, and probably need to be cleaned more often than I tend to mop my floor. They might not look dirty, but are probably harboring plenty of nasty germs. Disinfectant wipes are a winner here, too.

10. Mirrors

If you’re cleaning your bathroom mirror once a week, that’ll be taken care of. But chances are the full-length mirrors in your bedrooms, along with your makeup or vanity mirror, are pretty dusty, too. Give them a cleaning ever week, and you’ll look even more fabulous!
