- Just like you would for most any job that needs to be done, you need to schedule your cleaning times. People who plan it out are much more likely to get it done in a smaller amount of time. You can set aside a morning, an afternoon, time after work, or an entire day each week. Whatever it is that works for you, schedule your cleaning and get it done.
- After you schedule your cleaning, plan out a room at a time and bring all the supplies with you. This way, you spend a lot less time walking back-and-forth through your house.
- Spend a little time picking up before you start the deeper cleaning. Walk through the room and gather up anything that doesn’t belong and put it in its rightful place. If this tends to be the kids’ toys, shoes, etc., enlist their help.

- Use a good multi-purpose cleaner to help clean a lot of different surfaces with only one bottle. It’s more efficient and saves money, too!
- Let your dishwasher help you out on cleaning day. It’s great for cleaning things like light fixtures, and even your stove’s grease filter. I’ve used my dishwasher for both of these, and it really gets them much cleaner than I could by hand. Try it out if you haven’t already!
- Clean the microwave with lemon juice. Set a small bowl with one cup of lemon juice inside the microwave, close the door, and run the microwave on high for 4 minutes. When the time is up, don’t open the door. Let the microwave sit for another 10 minutes. Now open the door, remove the bowl of lemon juice {careful! it may still be hot} and use a microfiber cloth to wipe the inside clean. It works like a charm, and also clears up any lingering cooking odors!
- Use old tube socks to dust your window blinds. Just slide a sock over each hand, dampen them slightly with water, and go to town!
Finally, don’t forget that a lot of hands make light work. Get the family involved in all your cleaning shortcuts. Put on some music, and make cleaning fun!
