If you’re really into natural cleaning — or you grow a lot of your own produce — you can actually clean your house with fruits and veggies. Instead of potentially-dangerous chemicals, you could be using the natural, great-smelling power of produce! Intrigued?
1. Disinfect
No, really! Fruits and vegetables can help you make safe disinfecting sprays that smell amazing. Mix vinegar, grapefruit juice, and baking soda to make an all-purpose cleaner.
2. In the Bathroom
Simply cut a fresh lemon in half and rub it on lime scale, soap scum, or hard water stains. You can even mix lemon juice and baking soda into a paste to clean your toilet.
3. Win the Battle of the Stink
Nothing beats the fresh citrus smell of lime. Try making your own lime air freshener, and you’ll no longer need chemical-based odor eliminators.
4. Give Scuffs the Brush-Off
For scuff marks on floors or walls, try the peel of a cucumber! It’s nature’s magical eraser.
5. De-Grime the Grill
Heat up your grill grates (or oven rack), then grab half an onion with your tongs or a long fork. With the cut side, you can scrape away burned-on residue. The enzymes combine with oxygen to make a powerful, non-toxic acid that breaks down the grime.
6. Polish Wood
If your wood furniture and floors are looking less-than-lovely, don’t go bananas — just use one to clean! Mash up an over-ripe banana and rub it, sparingly, on floors and furniture. Then wipe it clean and buff to shine it up. For nicks and scratches, you can rub a walnut onto the area to cover it up. Amazing!
7. Eliminate Mirror Fog
Cucumber juice or a slice of cucumber will actually keep the stream from accumulating on your mirror during your next shower. Just rub it on. It’ll also help shine up stainless steel fixtures.
8. Bye-bye, Rust
Potatoes contain a unique acid that will actually get rid of rust. The same acid is used in commercial rust cleaners, but with a potato, you don’t get all the nasty stuff along with it. Try it on cookware, tools, even your car.
