Carpet Cleaning Hacks For Pet Owners
Urine And Waste Stains
Once your pet has left a urine or other yucky stain on your carpet, it’s really important to remove the scent–not just the stain. As long as your pet can smell his own urine in your carpet, he is likely to go in that same spot again. Here’s how to get rid of the smell.
- First, thoroughly blot up as much of the urine as possible.
- Use a spray bottle with full-strength white distilled vinegar. Spray the vinegar onto the urine stain.
- Allow the vinegar to penetrate the carpet and neutralize the scent.
- Now blot up the vinegar with a clean dry towel or paper towels.
- Once the stain is just slightly damp, sprinkle it with baking soda.
- Let the baking soda sit on the carpet overnight. Vacuum it up the next day.
Pet Hair
If you have a pet who sheds, you know the frustration of pet hair that gets stuck in your carpet, especially along baseboards and other tricky areas. To loosen that stuck pet hair, use a window squeegee. Just scrape the carpet where stuck pet hair is a problem. Once the hair is loosened, vacuum it up.
Carpet Cleaning Hacks: Prevention of Pet Stains
Muddy paws are another common pet stain culprit. To prevent this, keep a container of pet wipes by the door you use to let your pet in and out. A simple habit of checking your pet’s paws when he comes in and wiping them off as needed will prevent a lot of carpet stains before they happen.
