Wait, what? Spring cleaning in a hour? Yes! If you’re on a tight schedule and have a spring cleaning checklist that needs to be spic-and-span in a hurry, it’s actually doable! Take a look at these cleaning tips that will help you get your spring cleaning chores done ASAP.
1. The Right Tools
Any job requires the proper tools, so here’s what you’ll need for your 1-hour spring cleaning checklist: a sticky lint roller, your vacuum, a dish cloth and dish soap, non-scratch scrubbing sponges, and either pre-moistened cleaning wipes or rubbing alcohol with some cotton pads. That’s it! Set your timer for an hour to keep you focused, and play some music if you like.
2. Oven, Microwave, Counters
First, start your self-cleaning oven if you have one. Open a widow to air things out. Yes, most ovens will take a couple of hours to do this, but at that point, it’s only a couple of minutes of cleaning time to wipe everything out with your damp sponge.
In the meantime, continue in the kitchen with your microwave. In a glass dish, microwave 2 cups of water with a half of a lemon in it. Squeeze the lemon juice into the water and heat on high for 2-3 minutes. Don’t open the door for a few minutes so the steam can work. At that point, grab your sponge and wipe everything out.
During your microwave heating and waiting time, clean off the counters. Take everything off and wipe them down with your no-scratch sponge, wet with a little water and dish soap. When your counters are clean, wipe out the microwave. See what we did there?
3. Vents & Baseboards
This is one of your longer chores at a whopping 10 minutes. Use your vacuum attachments to clean the dust from your vent covers. They probably need it! Don’t forget the air return vents. If you’re really ambitious and want to take a little extra time, take the covers off and vacuum out the dust you can see from your duct work.
While you’re vacuuming the vents, you might as well do the baseboards. Use your duster attachment and get the edges of the carpet, too. There’s bound to be dust bunnies there. This should take you another 10-15 minutes.
4. Most-Touched Surfaces
Grab your cleaning wipes or cotton pads with rubbing alcohol and wipe down telephones, keyboards, remotes, light switches outside the kitchen, doorknobs, and stair railings. Banish those germs! This should only be about 15 minutes of your time.
5. Final Tasks
Now that things are clean, do a walk through of your home to pick up any clutter, fluff the pillows, put away throw blankets, etc. Pick up shoes and other things that don’t belong in any room and put them where they go. Congratulations! You’ve spring cleaned your whole house in about an hour.
