If you have pets, you have messes (if you don’t, please let the world on your secret). Whatever types of furry friends you live with, here are some cleaning hacks that everyone with pets should know.
1. Start With Them
Doesn’t it stand to reason that if your pets are clean, they won’t mess up your house as much? Yeah, it’s a pain to bathe Rufus, and he probably hates it. But the more often you do it, the fewer germs and other undesirables he’ll be carrying around with him 24/7. It’s not just about the shedding!
2. Keep it Under Wraps
Whether your pets sleep on the couch or the floor, they tend to lie in certain spots. If you can keep those spots covered with a blanket or towel, those areas will stay cleaner. When someone comes over, you can just throw the blanket in the washer. Besides…they’ll be more comfortable.
3. Tools of the Trade
Pet owners often flock to the newest gadgets that burst onto the market claiming to take care of pet hair. Here are quite a few of the options.
4. Banish Odors
Your pets do have a smell, even if you don’t notice it anymore. It’s always a good idea to freshen your carpets and upholstery on a regular basis, but especially if you’re expecting company. It might be a pain to have an all-out carpet cleaning, but try to have a good odor removing protocol in mind.
5. Wipe Their Paws
You wipe your feet when you come in from wet weather, don’t you? Why not have some pet paw wipes handy to help Kitty out when she comes inside? If you like, you can simply keep a towel near the door and let Fido stand on the mat while you wipe his paws off. It only takes seconds but will make a big difference for your floors.
6. Vacuum, Then Repeat
Yep, your good old vacuum is still the best way to banish pet hair. It’s pretty obvious, but I know that I for one still don’t do it enough. Heaven forbid someone should want to sit on the floor, right?
