Having a baby is a big deal. Suddenly, you have a lot more responsibility on your shoulders. And even though you’ve been expecting that for 9 months, somehow it still seems like a surprise. Keeping everything organized can go a long way to easing your mind, so keeping the nursery clean and in order can be a big help. Here are 10 ways to keep your nursery or small child’s room tidy functional.
1. First Things First
If you want a clean nursery, you don’t want to bring in sheets, towels, and clothes that aren’t really clean. Plan to wash blankets, sheets, mattress pads, etc. in hot water every week (but do pay attention to tag instructions). Adding vinegar to your wash can help remove stains and odors. And you can always add bleach to the whites! Here are some more laundry tips.
2. Fold for Space-Saving
All those little onesies, outfits, and blankets can end up taking way too much drawer and closet space. If you want to keep drawers neat, here’s a great tutorial for organizing and folding all those cute little things to save room.
3. Go Neutral
When you’ve having a baby, you get a lot of gifts. Since most of those givers probably don’t know your nursery’s color palette (at least in accurate shades), try keeping your colors neutral. That way, any blankets or decor items you receive can simply provide the pops of color you need to accentuate the neutral room.
4. Bin There, Done That
In your nursery, extra storage will always be a good thing. Hand-me-down clothes, diapering supplies, blankets, toys, and all your other needs won’t always fit in a dresser and closet. That’s why safe and nursery-appropriate storage bins are always welcome.
5. Clean Often
Your nursery is probably dirtier than you think. Vacuum regularly to reduce allergens. Wash bedding weekly. Wipe down doorknobs and often-touched surfaces with a disinfecting wipe — especially when someone is sick. And every time you change a diaper, there are bound to be germs. Use disinfectant or disinfecting wipes on all surfaces — especially the changing area.
