Nothing wrecks the beauty of an otherwise-clean bathroom like soap scum. Who wants to take a shower with that filmy, chalky residue all over the glass or shower curtain? The trouble with soap scum is that it can be notoriously difficult to clean away. But with these tips and a few items you probably already have on hand, you’ll be saying “see ya” to this common bathroom enemy in no time.
1. What You’ll Need
You’ll only need 3 simple tools. Gather up some white vinegar, liquid dish soap, and one of those dish wands — you know — those things that have a sponge on the end and hold the dish soap in the handle. This will make your job a lot easier and alleviate the “yuck factor.”
2. Prepare the Magic
Grab your dish wand and fill the handle with about 1/3 dish soap and 2/3 vinegar. You can even add some essential oil if you like, as a bonus! If the ingredients don’t seem to mix together very well at first, don’t worry about it. If needed, you can just give it a little shake before using. (P.S. If you want, you can just keep one of these “magic” wands ready to go in each bathroom — just be sure to store it with the sponge part facing up, so it doesn’t leak all over.)
3. Do Your Stuff
The funny part of this method is that you actually do it while you’re in the shower. Don’t judge! It’s definitely better than waiting until soap scum builds up. While you’re in there, the heat and steam from the shower will actually help loosen the film while you scrub. And once you’ve scrubbed, the vinegar and dish soap will be rinsed off the walls while you finish your shower.
“Cleaning while I’m in the shower? No way!” Hey, you’re in there cleaning yourself anyway, aren’t you? Seriously, you only need to scrub for maybe 30 seconds, 2 or 3 times a week. This way, you’ll never have to deep clean your shower and work up a sweat doing it. It’ll always be clean! Go you!
