Cleaning your house can easily become a habitual process where you don’t think much about it. Although that can help get rid of some of the monotony of housework, it can cause problems if you tend to skip over certain items. Here is a list of 15 items that everyone forgets to clean and that you can integrate into your house cleaning habits!
Phones
This goes for landlines and cellphones, especially if they’re being used by the whole family. You can simply wipe them down with a disinfectant wipe and it won’t add much time to your cleaning schedule at all.
Remote Control
Remote controls are notorious for collecting germs and grime, especially if you have little kids around. Make sure to give the remotes a good wipe down every time you’re cleaning a room with one.
It may seem like you don’t really need to clean the toothbrush holder, but it’s actually a pretty nasty receptacle for germs. Whenever you’re cleaning the bathroom, just make sure to rinse and clean the toothbrush holder before you get to the rest of the counter.
Hairbrush
There are lots of ways to clean your hairbrush, just make sure it’s actually getting clean. Pull any knotted leftover hair out of the brushes and, if necessary, wipe it down to keep it nice and smooth.
Light Switch
Believe it or not, lots of people forget to clean off light switches! The best way to do this is pull out a disinfectant wipe in each room you’re cleaning and wipe it down real quick. There’s no hassle and it can really cut back on sicknesses.
Toilet Paper Holder
While toilet paper holders aren’t touched and handled as often as other bathroom appliances, it’s good to put them in the cleaning schedule. Toilet paper holders can gather lots of dirt and germs that float around in the bathroom, so make sure to clean them.
Showerhead
There’s actually an incredibly easy way to clean your showerhead without even having to remove it from the nozzle! Just tie a bag full of vinegar around the head, let it sit for a few hours, and then remove it. The chemicals in the vinegar should get rid of any built up grime.
Garbage Can
Garbage cans, whether in the kitchen, a bedroom, or bathroom, can get pretty nasty and stinky. Make sure to wipe them down on a regular basis but also add some deodorizer in it to keep smells away.
Refrigerator Seal
Refrigerator seals can get all sorts of gunk inside of them. While it’s not a very visible part of your fridge, it’s still a part that needs to be cleaned regularly. Just take a disinfectant wipe or wet cloth and wipe it down.
Vacuum
Ironically, your vacuum needs to be cleaned every now and then as well. Make sure to clean or replace the bag and that the spindles are cleared and working properly.
Bath Mat
It’s always a good idea to give the bath mat a good cleaning every now and then. You can shake it out in the backyard, vacuum it, or even throw it in the wash if necessary.
Iron
Some people think that once your iron starts going bad, that there’s nothing you can do. However, that’s not the case. Most iron gunk can be removed by turning the iron to medium and rubbing it down with salt. The salt is usually course enough to remove any caked on gunk.
Dish Washer
Although your dishwasher only cleans thing, it itself will actually need regular maintenance and cleaning. You can get dish washer cleaning chemicals, or you can run the dish washer with lemon Kool-Aid and that should get rid of the lime buildup and other gunk.
Knife Block
Depending on what kind of knife block you have, you’ll need to clean it a certain way. But one thing’s for certain: the knife block needs to be cleaned. So, if you have a wood or metal knife block, check online on how to clean it and make sure you do!
Keyboard
Whether it’s a laptop or desktop, all computer needs to be cleaned, especially their keyboards. You can buy a special tool to clean keyboards, or just use a Q-Tip to get in between the cracks.
